2012年オリンピックの招致でロンドンがパリに勝ったことで、ブールスポーツ界はローン・ボウルズに注目している。

フランスのブール競技、そしてイタリアのラッファとともに、ローンボウルズは世界ブールスポーツ連合の構成団体である。ローンボウルズの活動の中心は主に英国であり、またその他の英連邦系諸国だが、少なくともそのうちの16カ国が積極的にブールスポーツに参加していると言われる。

しかしながら、いろいろなブールスポーツが英国のローンボウルズの人気にあやかってオリンピック種目になるという言い方にはやや疑問が残る。このスポーツの人気度はフランスでペタンクに人気があることには及ばないと言えるのだから。その意味では、2012年のオリンピック開催地決定で、パリがロンドンに負けた時点で、ブールスポーツが世界のメジャースポーツへの仲間入りをするという野望もまた後退したのである。

With London's triumph over Paris in bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games, the Boule Sport world is taking a closer look at the game of lawn bowling.

Together with the several French boule games and the Italian Raffa, lawn bowling is part of the International Boule Games organization. The centers of lawn bowling activity are mainly in the UK and Commonwealth member countries, but it is said that no less than sixteen countries from all parts of the world are actively participating in this Boules sport.

However, it is rather questionable to suggest that the various Boules sports could enter the Olympic Games via the popularity of lawn bowling in the UK. The sport's popularity is considerably lower than Petanque enjoys in France. In this sense, when Paris lost against London in bidding for the 2012 Olympics, the Boules sport world's dream to have its players join the worlds biggest sports event also were dealt a setback.
